IQA Utilities Ltd was established as Independent Quality Assurance Ltd. by Martin Watson, who left ScottishPower to work from his home. The Company carried out Independent Gas Auditing and Operational Procedures for Local Authorities and Housing Associations and had six employees until March 2005.

David Gowans, Chris Fergus and David McKinlay joined IQA to start up the electrical section of the business, bringing with them extensive knowledge in the Electrical field. The Company quickly employed a number of experienced Electricians holding authorisation to work on the ScottishPower LV network. The Company also moved into its current premises and changed its name to IQA Utilities Ltd following the introduction of new business streams.

The Building Maintenance section was launched along with the Home Energy section. Qualifications obtained allow IQA to undertake Energy Assessments of domestic properties.

Introduced a highly effective PDA system to control, monitor and programme all field operations. This technology has put IQA ahead of their competitors to enhance the delivery and flexibility of their services.

The Company, along with its highly skilled work force, has continued to grow and the majority of operations are now concentrated on providing ‘Internal Mains' services to Regional Electrical Companies.

The Company opened offices in Armadale, West Lothian , to target the opportunities available in the East of Scotland.
